The 14th Feb Optional Tour/Leisure Day will cost an additional NIS 250 (sharing a double room) and will include dinner, bed & breakfast plus a half day (hopefully free?) city tour organised by Haifa Municipality.
PAYMENT: We are very pleased to offer members the opportunity to pay the Conference fee in 6 monthly instalments (Sept 2009 – Feb 2010).
While, with the continuing economic problems, it has been impossible to obtain any financial sponsorship for this event, I am pleased to report that we have succeeded in finding sponsors for Conference bags and some ‘goodies’ to go in them!
The theme of the Conference is ‘RISING TO THE CHALLENGE’
An exciting draft programme is already prepared but we are actually so far ahead in our planning that several speakers, who have in principle accepted our invitations, will not be able to confirm their attendance until their work schedules are fixed in the coming weeks. We will continue the Hebrew / English ‘2-strand’ style, which has proved so successful at recent conferences. We have booked two comfortable halls at the hotel for plenary sessions and the lectures.
Mayor Yona Yahav (+ colleague) – Presentation on Challenges for Re-/Developing Haifa in 21st Century;
Dina Porat (T.A.U.)- The Challenge of the Upsurge of Anti-Semitism;
Prof Shlomo Maital (Technion) – The Challenge of the Global Tsunami for Israel’s Economy;
Stuart Palmer (Director, ICAN - Israel Citizens Action Network for volunteer public diplomacy) – The Challenge of Presenting Israel’s Image to the World;
Showing of Documentary Film ‘Haredot’ + discussion with Itay Ken-tor (Producer).
Installation Ceremony & Social Evening – after dinner on Monday evening, a brief Installation Ceremony for the new National Board and President will be held. Following this we are planning an enjoyable social evening with entertainment.
The Mt Carmel Hotel has an indoor swimming pool which we shall be able to enjoy and there will also be the possibility to book treatments at additional cost. Check out all the facilities on website www.mount-carmel.co.il . We have permission from the hotel to invite a few stallholders to display items for sale so we are now working to organise this.
